We’re in the last week of February and are rapidly approaching the end of the first quarter of the year! It’s time to shape things up around here! To my devoted readers, and those that are just getting here: I vow to blog more consistently this year. There are a lot of posts pending in draft mode that are waiting to be read, and I’m making it my mission to share them and more, more frequently.
I should have just kept driving. I actually went out of my way to go here. But no, one rainy and dreary day after work I decided to make a detour to one of my favorite places: Ulta. This place has just about everything that you could think of for your beauty needs (I know you’ve been there before so I won’t digress).

As I tuned into the live stream of Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood’s red carpet, I noticed that the interviewers posed the same question to every guest: What does black girl magic mean to you?. Unless you have been under a rock, you’ve seen the hashtag #BlackGirlMagic floating around social media. The actuality of black girl magic is more than another hashtag, and just like the guests on that red carpet, it means something different to each of us.
Where’d you get that shirt?!” A question posed several times the evening that I attended the All Curls Wanted event, and here I am to finally answer it. I fell in love with this shirt from Class of Seventy Four the minute that I saw it: The words Detroit’s Doper dripped in bling, draping from a gold curb chain, gracefully adorning the neck of the regal Ms. Diana Ross, a Detroit native herself. I had to have it!
I’m a serial book starter and buyer. I will buy book after book, start reading, get distracted, and won’t pick it up again for a few weeks (maybe even months). However, I do love to read. I’m setting a goal for myself this year, not a resolution, to read more. Not for sport or to rack up my book count but to increase knowledge and fuel curiosity. I resolved to do this last year, but to no avail and not challenging myself, it did not happen.
Just like many others, I staked the claim that this is my year, and I am going to take my health to a better place. It’s safe to say that this journey has gotten off to a slow start. It may be slow, but my efforts are steady and in this turtle race, that is what matters. I won’t be hopping on any fad and extreme diets. I just want to LIVE a healthier lifestyle, and I believe I have been making steps in the right direction (I think).
